Pekanbaru, UIR : Petroleum Engineering Department of Riau Islamic University (UIR) received donation a software license of the Integrated Production Modeling (IPM) Suite from the Petroleum Expert Limited (Petex). Petex is a petroleum software company that has the headquarter at Petex house, 10 Logie Mill, Edinburg EH7 4HG, Scotland, UK
The donation was in the form of 10 licenses of the IPM Suite package consisting of 6 software owned by Petroleum Expert Limited worth £ 1,616,276.01 or in rupiahs of Rp. 28,146,582,954.31; A very large amount for UIR education development. This donation can be renewed every year at the request of UIR to Petex Limited, without incurring fees, just issue a letter to Petex.
10 sets of software packages are very beneficial to enhance the knowledge of the students in developing their expertise in the fields of Field Management, Production Enhancement, and Oil Recovery. The IPM Suite can model a comprehensive oil and gas production system including reservoirs, oil wells, and a network of surface facilities. Dr. Eng Muslim, the head of Petroleum Engineering Department, explained in a press release received by the UIR Public Relations and Protocol staff, Tuesday 27/08/2019.
The students are expected to have special expertise in the IPM software suite once they graduate. This skills will make them easier to compete in the workforce as well as get jobs from oil and gas companies in Indonesia and Global as we know that some Global and National companies have normally used IPM software Suite in daily operations. Those companies that have used the IPM Suite, among others; Pertamina Upstream, PHE, Petronas, Chevron, Exxon Mobil, Qatar Petroleum, ADCO, ARAMCO, and British Petroleum.
Besides that, Petex also donates this software to other petroleum engineering education institutions in Indonesia, such as ITB, Trisakti University, and UPN Jogjakarta.
