Reduce

The campus has done many things to cut down on waste, such as choosing products that can be refilled, like water and pen ink. Instructions on how to print on both sides of digital and hard copies of guidelines, how to send meeting invitations digitally to save paper, and how to use a learning management system to give exams online or offline. Encouraging practices that reduce the generation of waste in the first place. This may involve promoting the use of eco-friendly products, encouraging responsible consumption, and implementing policies to reduce packaging.

Instead of using disposable plates, use plates and mats that can be used more than once, like the ones below.

Reuse

The 3Rs concept, which stands for Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, includes reuse. Regarding the comprehension of reuse, it pertains to endeavors aimed at reutilizing commodities or refuse. Beyond just reuse, the idea of reuse includes thinking about how goods or waste could be used again by the academic community, starting with students and teachers. The campus has reused the bottles that are still good by making useful things out of them, like flowerpots, storage for stationery, and places for other living plants.

In order to keep the program going, the campus will use plastic bottles that have been modified to be used as plant pots to build vertical gardens in each faculty. In addition to lowering the temperature, the faculty can grow plants that can be used as living pharmacies.

Recycling

Recycling is the process of getting the most out of trash that can’t be used right away by an intervention process so that it can be used again as raw material. Promoting the separation, collection, and recycling of materials to extract valuable resources from waste. This includes establishing recycling programs for materials such as paper, glass, plastic, and metal.

Civitas Academic in academic settings can come up with different ways to recycle trash, like turning organic waste into compost and bioprocess. Today, there are many digital movements to care for the environment with the help of technology. For example, we recycle paper waste or sell trash that can be recycled as plastic waste.

Containerizing trash is a way to store trash temporarily so that it is easier to move and sort. It can be used by individuals or groups. Ideally, the types of containers should be different depending on the type of trash so that recycling is easier. The campus only uses one container for all waste compositions, making reducing, reusing, and recycling (3R) difficult. The subsequent suggestions pertain to the types of waste receptacles that are suitable for utilization within the campus environment, as per 1) The amount of trash made; 2) Where to put the containers; 3) The color of the containers should match the type of trash being separated; and 4) The amount needed is based on SNI 19-2425-2002 and SNI 3242-2008 (BSN, 2002), (BSN, 2008).

Paving block made from recycled plastic waste.

After sorting, Civitas academic assistants collect recyaclable plastics for processing ain the engineering faculty to reduce plastic waste. This is one of the tasks that the students have to do to practice using machines that recycle plastic waste. One task is to make bricks and paving blocks. Campus operations include recycling cardboard waste, which can be turned into paper for important writing needs.

Setting guidelines for the proper disposal of waste that cannot be recycled or reused. This may involve regulations for landfill management and the treatment of non-recyclable waste to minimize environmental impact.

Campaign of waste recycle

Public Awareness and Education:

Educating the public about responsible waste management practices, the importance of recycling, and the environmental consequences of improper waste disposal.

Waste policies play a crucial role in creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to managing waste, contributing to broader efforts to address climate change and protect ecosystems.
