Energy Conservation

Implementing energy conservation measures on a campus is essential for reducing environmental impact, lowering operating costs, and promoting sustainability. Here are several strategies and practices for energy conservation on Universitas Islam Riau (UIR) campus:

Energy Audits and Assessments

We conduct regular energy audits to identify areas of energy waste and opportunities for improvement. We use the findings to prioritize and implement targeted energy-saving measures.

Efficient Lighting

We continuously replacing traditional incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting. Now, we already replacing 75% of traditional bulbs into LED bulbs. In addition, in some places we also using sensors and timers to ensure lights are only on when needed.

Green Building Program

Regularly maintain and tune heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. Some of our buildings already use natural air ventilating system to maintain air circulation. Furthermore, we increased numbers of vegetations between building to further reduce air temperature and increase air flow to the building. Even on parking area we plant some trees to ensure the surrounding temperature in range 25 – 28 C.

In future, we will also want to utilize natural daylight through well-designed windows and skylights.

Renewable Energy Sources

Our campus already installed renewable energy source such as 15 KW solar panel power plant as a main energy in one of our buildings since 2013, and we plan to increase its number to other building in the future. Other than solar panel, we also installed wind power plant on our building for energy sources.

The program also involves partnerships with local utilities for renewable energy options.
